VIEW OF OLD FACTORY IN BACK YARD

old glove factory dating back to the early 1900’s as viewd from my backyard.  the chimney in the right rear of the photo is a well known landmark now.

according to local legend, the swifts migrate from the amazon river to this chimney every year on the 6th of may, no matter what day that falls out on.  also, the 6th is the birthday of the owner-builder of the glove factory.  the swifts came back this year on the 6th of may, circled around for about 15 minutes and then flew into the chimney to build their nests.  swifts have very week legs and therefore build their nests on the inside walls of this chimney and have been doing so since the early 1900s.   every night, around 8:30 pm, several thousand swifts funnel into the chimney, which is an incredible sight to witness.  a huge crowd forms to witness this event along with music, songs and dancing in the streets.

we have a direct view of this from the second floor bathroom facing the chimney about 60 feet away from us.   sometime around august, they migrate back to the amazon river, a distance of 7000 miles.
